The concept of Dolly style is much more varied and colourful than you would think. Japan is pushing the world towards this philosophy of fashion, which is a real culture, with specific dictates, shops and “thoughts” without taking away the fact that, here in Italy and in other parts of the world, the Lolita Style is very well followed and partly reinterpreted. It would be simplistic to bring everything to the simple definition of “doll”. In fact, the philosophy behind it is made of clear rules.
To remember is that the classic elements of the Lolita’s style are full skirts of different lengths, petticoats, wide choice of accessories and very elaborate outfits, but there are many possible Lolitas!
The classic sweet Lolita, very colourful and “dolly-like”, wearing tiaras and dresses with a childish silhouette, has several variants named according to the predominant colours, such as pastel colours, black, or blue.
So let’s see to the Gothic Lolita, whose favourite colour is black, and the Classic Lolita, more mature in the use of colours. The punk Lolita uses punk clichés such as safety pins, zippers, ties, chains, skulls, tartan. Very interesting is the Kimono Lolita, who incorporates all the things mentioned above but in a “housewife” mood, that is with characteristic kimonos and dresses.
How to get ideas and be inspired?
The Lolita style is very difficult and with such particular clichés that here in Europe it is not as popular as in Japan. We could define these looks extremes, but we can also take some ideas to wear in our everyday outfits. The skirts are very 50′s and are less dramatic when combined with a leather jacket and heels, rather than pink ballet shoes with straps. The tiaras are beautiful, if worn with a whole jeans-and-rock look.
The Lolita’s makeup can be worn either with really formal clothes for particular events or for our everyday life to enhance eyes and lips. The use of colour is up to us!

Il concetto Dolly style è molto più variegato e variopinto di quanto si pensi. il Giappone é il mondo ispirante di questa filosofia di moda, che è una vera e propria cultura, con precisi dictat, negozi e “pensieri” senza togliere il fatto che qui in Italia e in altre parti del mondo il Lolita Style sia molto seguito e in parte reinterpretato. Sarebbe riduttivo portare tutto alla semplice definizione di bambolina, in realtà la filosofia retrostante è fatta di precise regole.
Da ricordare è che gli elementi ricorrenti nello stile lolita sono, gonne ampie di diversa lunghezza che non seguono la forma “dritta” delle gambe, petticoats, scelta degli accessori e abbinamenti molto elaborati, ma le Lolite possibili sono moltissime!
La classica sweet Lolita con colori abiti bamboleggianti, tiare, e abiti dalla forma infantile ha diverse varianti di nome in base ai colori predominanti, pastello, nero, oppure azzurri.
E allora passiamo alla Gothic Lolita il cui colore è il nero, e alla Classic Lolita più matura anche nell’uso dei colori. La punk lolita utilizza clichè punk come spille da balia, zip, cravatte, catene, teschietti, tartan. Interessante è la Kimono Lolita che riprende tutte le cose sopra citate ma in chiave “casalinga” quindi con kimoni e abiti caratteristici.
Come prendere spunto?
Il lolita style è molto difficile e con clichè particolari tali per cui qui in Europa non spopola come in Giappone. Estremi potremmo definirli questi look, ma possiamo anche noi tutti i giorni prendere degli spunti per fare degli abbinamenti. Le gonne ampie fanno molto anni 50 e vengono meno forti se abbinate a chiodo e tacchi, piuttosto che ballerine rosa con cinturino. Le tiare sono bellissime, se sdrammatizzate da un look tutto jeans e rock.
Il trucco Lolita allo stesso modo può essere abbinato a abiti da cerimonia per eventi particolari o nel trucco di tutti i giorni per mettere in risalto occhi e bocca. Sta a noi l’utilizzo dei colori e degli estremi.
