Dal moodboard agli outfit

Ormai sono tre settimane che parliamo di fashion styling, con l’ottica della realizzazione di un photoshoot e non c’e’ bisogno di spiegare ulteriormente il gergo fashion. Dal moodboard agli outfit quindi, il che significa per lo stylist iniziare a tradurre in outfit l’ispirazione e le immagini, sviluppate e approfondite nel moodboard. Nel nostro moodboard l’ispirazione erano gli anni ’70 e tre personaggi femminili dei fumetti e cartoni animati: Wonder Woman, Penelope Pitstop ed Eva Kant.

It’s been 3 weeks since we’ve started talking about fashion styling and so I’m sure the title is all clear for you: moodboard and outfit. If you are in doubt go and check out the articles before.

From the moodboard to the outfit is when the stylist starts translating the inspirational outfit and the images, developed in the moodboard. In our moodboard, the inspiration was the 70es and 3 female characters from the cartoons: Wonder Woman, Penelope Pitstop and Eva Kant.

Sarebbe troppo facile (diciamo, ma non è vero più di tanto!) riprodurre fedelmente i loro abiti, ma non sarebbe un lavoro da stylist, ma da costumista. Lo stylist deve reinterpretare le immagini a cui fa riferimento tenendo conto del gusto e dei trend contemporanei ma allo stesso tempo incorporare nell’outfit elementi che ricordino e rendano chiaro a chi ci si sta riferendo.

Nel tradurre con gusto attuale le nostre tre eroine, ho tenuto fermi nei loro look le palette di colori che le contraddistinguono ed alcuni elementi o accessori che le caratterizzano. Nelle immagini vedrete un’elaborazione al computer, foto degli abiti che ho usato e foto di backstage con modella che indossa gli outfit. Ma vediamo in concreto come ho proceduto.

It would be too easy (let’s say, although it’s not that true) to just copy their clothes, but that wouldn’t be a job for a stylist. The stylist has to reinterpret the images he is referring to, thinking about the modern trends, but at the same time to incorporate in the outfit some elements that remember and make the reference clear.

 

In translating with a modern taste these 3 heroines, I’ve used the same colours and some elements and accessories that characterize them. In these images you will see some elaborations on the computer, pictures of the clothes I’ve used and some backstage picture with the model wearing them. But let’s see in concrete what has passed!

WONDER WOMAN

• Ho mantenuto la palette dei rossi e del blu.
• La culotte è diventata uni short jeans. La coroncina invece una bandana.
• Ho immaginato che si fosse stancata di salvare il mondo e che si sia preparata per un pic-nic!

• I’ve imagines she was tired after saving the world and that she was preparing a pic nic

PENELOPE PITSTOP

• Ho mantenuto il fucsia, cappello da aviatore e occhialoni.
• Le ho dato un tocco da ‘pazzerella’ con la borsa muccata, la cinta in vita e una mucchetta appesa.
• Ho immaginato che avesse perso tutti i punti della patente e che quindi sia costretta ad andare a piedi!

PENELOPE PITSTOP

• I’ve maintained the fuchsia, the aviator hat and the glasses
• I’ve used the cow bag for a fun touch, a belt on the waist and a cow hanging down
• I’ve imagined she has lost all the points on the driving licence and so she is forced to go on foot

EVA KANT

• Ho mantenuto il nero e i capelli ( anche se gli chignon sono diventati due, per un tocco piu’ giovane).
• Ho aggiunto come tocco glamour la camicia maculata, collo di pelliccia,la collanona d’oro ed il fiore di paillettes.
• Ho immaginato che fosse stanca di rubare e che al contrario spendesse facendo shopping.

EVA KANT

• I’ve maintained the black and the hair (although the chignons have become to for a younger touch)
• I’ve inserted as a glamour touch the leopard shirt, the fur, the big golden necklace and the sequin flower.
• I’ve imagined she was tired to steal and she now spent everything doing shopping

 Ultimo dettaglio sulla creazione dell’outfit. Non è stato semplice trovare cio’ che volevo per i tre personaggi, anzi a volte non è stato possibile e ho dovuto trovare delle soluzioni alternative su cosa mettere addosso al personaggio (il top di Wonder Woman); altre mi sono talmente intestardito nel trovare quello che volevo ( cappello da aviatore) che alla fine l’ho spuntata io!

L’ultimo step che ci manca ora è fare luce sulla realizzazione di un servizio fotografico, il che consiste soprattutto nel coordinare fotografo, stylist, trucco e parrucco, casting e scelta delle modelle e location. Tra una settimana saprete come funziona ( o dovrebbe) un photoshoot.

A final touch in the creation of the outfit. It wasn’t easy to find what I wanted for the three characters, and sometimes it wasn’t possible so I had to find an alternative solutions on what to put on the character, and in some others I got so stubborn in finding what I wanted

One last step that we are still missing now is to organize the shooting and coordinate the photographer, the stylist, hair and make-up, casting of the models and location. In one week time you’ll discover how a photoshoot works
