THE ROYAL WEDDING’S HATS

people 4 THE ROYAL WEDDINGS HATS

One of the biggest peculiarities of British weddings are certainly the hats. This custom dates back to the medieval times and it has been characterizing the British society for centuries. In fact, in England, hats are a real business, with specialized designers and stores. Also at my parent’s wedding all the English relatives of my father had their heads covered! But the ones we have seen at this wedding were truly bizarre. This is part of the english conception that fashion equals to having fun. In Italy it means to be elegantly dressed, but there they just want to play with themselves and feel unique and creative. In short, they weren’t going to a funeral, it’s right to dress in a fun way in such a happy day as a wedding!

The designer who designed most of the most bizarre and incredible hats for the ceremony was Philip Treacy, the Irish “Mad Hatter” who has worked for years with big names such as Alexander McQueen, Ralph Lauren and Chanel. For those who are curious and happen to go to London, I suggest them to take a look at his shop in Elizabeth Street. He designed all the hats of the royal family as well as many of the other guests.

Here are some pictures of all the strange hats that we’ve seen at the wedding.
